On 01.11.2007 in Veles, The first GMO-free zone in Macedonia, a constitutive session of the network "GMO free Macedonia” was held.

Participants on this meeting and founders of the network were:

• EA “Vila Zora” Veles (Nenad Kocic, Vesna Kocova),
• AC “Eko-svest” – Skopje (Adrijana Slavkova),
• EA “Planetum” Strumica (Lazarov Aleksandar),
• Farmers’ Federation of RM (Trajkovski Branko),
• Foundation “Fokus” – Veles (Vesna Skortova),
• Alliance of associations of organic producers – BIOSAN (Timova Ljubica, Kolev Goran).

About the main activities, it was noticed that it is necessary spreading of the network on the whole state and including all civil organizations and foundations.

The mission of the network is Protection of Republic of Macedonia from contamination with genetically modified organisms through education, experience exchange, lobbying, promotion and development of organic agriculture, as well as announcing GMO-free zones.

A Memorandum of agreement of all participants was signed. Also, it was proposed a Proclamation to Public, which, after given corrections, was final and prepared for presentation on the planned press conference.


Future network activities:
1.    Integration of organizations from R. Macedonia that are involved in GMO problem and making an effective network of civil organizations and foundations that will work on protection of R. Macedonia from GMO in mission direction;
2.    Promotion of the network to public and responsible institutions.
3.    Making a project for financial assurance of the network;
4.    Registration of the network as a legal body.
